Like most women, I love clothes & I love to shop! I especially love to shop when the clothes I buy for my studio wardrobe doesn’t have to necessarily fit me, but fit lots of different body styles for my clients. I know what coordinates and photographs well and therefore have taken the guess work out of it for you with pieces that compliment my signature style. My studio wardrobe is filled with lots of pieces that you and your family can borrow for your session. Not only do I have pieces for baby such as rompers, dresses, and overalls, I also have a full wardrobe for Mom, sister, brother and even shirts for Dad! Mom’s can choose from long or short dresses, tops and skirts, and sweaters, kimonos or cardigans to go over anything.
I work closely with my clients to choose options that compliment my soft, natural style we are going for. Clothing that will enhance the beauty of the photograph instead of distract. I want my clients to feel beautiful yet comfortable and focus more on each other than what they are wearing. Here are some important things to keep in mind when brainstorming what to wear for your session whether you will be pulling from our wardrobe or bringing your own.
RECOMMENDED COLORS: Cream, white, tan, gray, and soft pastels such as pink or mauve, light blue or coral
TEXTURES & LAYERS – Mixing textures & adding layers truly adds depth, detail and dimension to a photo. Anything with a great texture or lace can be very understated but can dress up other basic pieces of your outfit while adding a feminine touch. Adding a vest, scarf, jacket, group of bangles or a simple necklace, can make your outfit shine without distracting like bold, neon or dark colors can.
TONES – Pick a tone & wear different shades of color. Muted tones and pastels are definitely my favorite! You don’t want to be too matchy matchy but clothes and accessories that coordinate well.
DONT’S – We want to avoid everyone in white button down shirts or polos and jeans. Stay away from heavy patterns and really bright or dark colors. Avoid black or super dark jeans with white threads as they tend to distract.
ELEMENTS TO REMEMBER:
MOM’s – A nude bra/panty (strapless is a plus!) and is all you will need. Don’t forget some of the smaller details such as painting your finger nails and toes clear or a soft neutral color such as pink or tan. The last thing we want is a neon color that will very well distract when you’re touching that sweet babies face.
HAIR & MAKEUP – I highly recommend mamas getting their hair & makeup done professionally. As mentioned before, hair and makeup does wonders for Mom’s confidence! Most of my clients do and that special treat can make you feel incredible which will undoubtedly shine through in your photographs especially when you may not be sleeping like normal. Amanda is our in house and resident hair and makeup artist. She knows exactly what style of makeup you need to make your portraits. Please let me know ahead of time if you’d like to add on her services.
If you decide to do your own makeup, make sure its a little heavier than your normal look. You want to look like an enhanced version of beautiful self. The camera tends to show more imperfections so concealer goes a long way. A soft, natural look is beautiful.
DAD’s – A classic tee, sweater, henley or long sleeved casual button down in a solid color work best for Dad. Coordinate this simple and neutral look with grey or tan pants or corduroy’s or light colored jeans. Avoid super starched business shirts or polos for Dad. We want Dad to coordinate and look effortless. The Pinterest board below has more ideas for his look. I do have a few shirts/tees that he is welcome to wear.
If you are a more visual person, I also have lots more ideas on my pinterest board HERE especially for DAD!
