Houston Santa Sessions | Pearland Children’s Photographer

Closing out this years annual Santa sessions at my Pearland photography studio this weekend and I wanted to share a few collages of the previous 2 sessions I’ve had this year. Its truly a special time to witness as a Houston Child Photographer. The look on these sweet children faces when they see Santa is just a joy! Some kids look at him with joy and some of them, well not so much. I personally LOVE the crying baby photos!!! Till next year Santa!!!

Houston Family Photographers | Giveaway!!!

Earlier this week, I was so blessed by winning a spot to the Return to Rest Retreat this coming January in New Hampshire! The Return to Rest retreat will be an intimate gathering of faith-driven, creative women. From entrepreneurs to busy moms to executives, ladies from all over will come together for a few days to encourage one another in the Lord and in an identity securely anchored in Him. I’m a huge believer that everything happens for a reason and He knows why things happen.  This year has been a huge blessing for me. I was able to quit my full time career to do photography full time!!! I’ve been able to do so many things that I wasn’t able to do before with my family. With all of these big changes, I was still left a little overwhelmed. I’m sure He knows that I need this. I would love to pay it forward the way that I know how…with a family (or Mom and Me) session!!! The winner receives a 1hr session either in my studio or at one of my favorite outdoor locations, your favorite images on a USB, and an 11×14 print of your favorite image. Wardrobe is available for the whole family!!

Allison Bowers - Please pick me and my daughter. Recently, I have been going through a lot of female problems. My husband and I have been trying to concieve for 16 months now with no luck. Within those 16 months, i have been diagnosed with PCOS (causes infertility), blocked fallopian tube that resulted in a Laposcrapy that showed I have endometriosis, a uterus that is bicorneal (birth defect), and now having to turn to fertility treatments. This photo session would mean the world to me because I have been shown through all of this that she was meant to be here and is a blessing. If I never have another child, I know my life is full because I have her! I would like to celebrate the two of us through this session.

Beth Vermillion - This is amazing! Thank you so much for offering this giveaway!

Kendra - These are beautiful!! CUTE CUTE Family!!

Michelle - You captured so many beautiful images of this family why are sure to treasure!

Krystal - This family is stunning. I love everything about these! What a great opportunity. Wished I lived closer.

Renee - Wow! Stunning family session

Return To Rest Retreat | Houston Family Photographer

shaw-family-houston-family-photographer-copyThis year has been such an amazing year for me and my business. I finally went full time and quit my job as a territory manager for a Fortune 500 company. Not only was it such a scary move but I felt like it was what God was telling me I needed to do. Along with being able to really concentrate on the business, I have also been able to concentrate on being a more Christ centered wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. I’ve been able to get more involved with my church and really soul search what type of role model I am for my children and how to be a better mother… someone who is grateful for every opportunity given and living my life without regrets. I’ve been able to be there with my kids, so much more than I ever have in their existences because of working a full time job while they were little, and for all of this I am so blessed.

I had an amazing experience at the Inspired Story this past August but I would love to start the new year off right attending the Return to Rest retreat. Not only would this be an amazing retreat to be able to recharge, but I think it would be such a beautiful start of even more friendships that encourage one another to be in the Lord. I believe that being surrounded by other women creatives who share the same beliefs would help me  be the best version of me.

UPDATE: I CANT BELIEVE THAT I WON!!!!!! I cant wait to head to New Hampshire at the end of January! What a great start to a brand-new year!!

Michelle - So excited for you and all you have accomplished this year since going full time! These retreats sound amazing!

Let’s Celebrate with Ice Cream | Houston Cake Smash Photographer

When Mom and I first spoke about doing Camila’s 1st birthday photos, we knew we wanted to do something a little different than the traditional cake smash. As I thought about ideas, I asked her with much enthusiasm, “What about ice cream?!” Not knowing how this would work out, we decided to give it a shot because who doesn’t love ice cream!

First, since this wasn’t traditional, I really wanted to use my creativity and the simple elegance I love in my other types of sessions to be incorporated into this session. I blended my love of white space, pink florals and greenery into this cute custom set with all the elements bringing in those organic elements not only to the background, but also using it in the actual ice cream bowl with real fruit. I absolutely loved how this turned out once I started to put it together!

Full first birthday sessions usually consist of individual baby portraits, family portraits, and then finally the “cake smash” but of course in this case, the ice cream. Camila did so well considering when they first came in she had been running a low grade fever. Throughout the session she was so happy and played with Mom and Dad! When it was finally time to do the ice cream, we took the ice cream out of my fridge, and it had almost completely melted!! Melted to where it just wasn’t going to look like anything more than soup. Since we had already pushed our time some with Camila having to take a power nap, we decided to have her come back in a couple days and just do the ice cream smash part.

Prepared with ice cream in a freezer bag and having just bought it on the way, low and behold the ice cream still melted some. This Texas heat is just no joke! Unfortunately this time, Camila melted too. Even though we hoped the ice cream would help, she just wasn’t having a good day from teething.  Round number 2 unfortunately didn’t work.

I told Mom we could try it one more time if she really wanted (and I really wanted to make this work out too!) as we were determined. This time, the ice cream was extremely frozen and pretty hard. It took me little to even scoop it out and the ice cream kept well this time! We jumped, we giggled, we sang, we danced, we played peek a boo, and we tickled but nothing worked. Camila apparently really didn’t want to eat the ice cream and the resulting image is below. Photography is about the real moments right?? So at least we can’t say we didn’t try!
